Aura Talks Trends, Inspiration and the Highly Revered LFI.
How's everybody feeling on this fantastic Friday? As the weather warms and our spirits unthaw from this past lengthy winter I'm hearing rumblings of party planning being in full effect. That's right, outdoor celebration weather is here and we can barely contain our excitement.
This week I've got something super cool and inspirational for all of you party planning officianadoes out there who are free falling into summer. This past week I was fortunate enough to catch up with Lawrence Comisky, owner of Aura, an LED furniture and decor rental company in the GTA and he shared his thoughts and experiences on his very recent trip to attend the LIGHT FAIR INTERNATIONAL Tradeshow in Chicago from May 8 to 10th.
In case you haven't heard, the LFI tradeshow debuted in 1989 and just wrapped up its 29th edition at the McCormick Centre in Chicago. Every year more than 500 exhibitors present their products and concepts regarding lighting technology and innovation and last year over 27,000 attendees were present.
You may be thinking, why am I talking about this? As event planners we all know that one of the major components to a great event is LIGHTING. Lighting used in any of its multitude of forms can easily transform any space, its energy and mood to suit the venue.
This year the LFI tradeshow promised to be its best yet and judging from the pictures he shared with me it's looking like it lived up to the hype. Catch my quick interview with the lighting master below.
Why was it important for you to travel to Chicago to attend the LFI show?
"Creative inspiration is huge for us. Our company culture has always been that knowledge and creativity go hand in hand so attending LFI was important to us for a few reasons. It's obviously a world class tradeshow, highly revered and to be honest we couldn't wait to see the newest products on the market."
How do you feed your passion for LED lighting and decor?
"Obviously the main passion lies in helping create unique and custom decor for our clients' events and celebrations. Knowing that we helped create lasting memories is top of the list."
"And then we have our creative passion where we're constantly learning about different trends and molding them to best suit our companies needs. Innovation and creation, it's never going to stop so we're just along for the ride and seeing what we can contribute."
You recently took part in a collaboration for the AGO, tell me about that.
"Yes, that was fantastic. We collaborated with a group called Wiseman Creative who are well established in the creative community. We created a light/art installation for the Mitchell/Riopelle exhibit about two lovers and artists. It was a really humbling experience for Aura, something we hope to contribute to again in the future".
When speaking about his team and plans for the future it's obvious that Comisky is excited about his companies progress and their plans to expand into new terrains regarding light, art and decor. "The clients come to us with their event plans and from there the creative process begins. How can we make this totally unique and unimaginably cool? Also keep in mind that what we have obviously looks best at night and in the dark so evening events is where Aura really shines."
